Anthropic has released Claude Opus 4.8, the newest version of its most advanced publicly available model, positioned as a more effective collaborator across coding, reasoning, and knowledge work. The launch came just 41 days after Opus 4.7, a much faster upgrade cycle than normal for Anthropic, and the model is available everywhere at the same pricing as its predecessor. Gains show up most clearly in agentic terminal coding, knowledge work, and agentic financial analysis, with a notable focus on honesty: Opus 4.8 is around four times less likely than its predecessor to allow flaws in code it has written to pass unremarked, and testers report it more readily flags uncertainty instead of overclaiming progress. Alongside the model, Anthropic introduced Dynamic Workflows, a research preview that helps larger models manage complex tasks across hundreds of parallel subagents, enabling Claude Code with Opus 4.8 to carry out codebase-scale migrations across hundreds of thousands of lines of code from kickoff to merge. Users on claude.ai and Cowork also gain an effort control to balance response speed, reasoning depth, and cost, while the Messages API now supports live updates to instructions mid-task. The release reflects Anthropic’s strategy of tightening the iteration loop on its flagship line while signaling that a new class of model with even higher intelligence than Opus, along with broader access to Mythos-class models currently limited to Project Glasswing partners, is on the near horizon.
